The CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES (CMK)
is a multidisciplinary research centre that opts
for a well-considered combination and symbiosis
between high-quality fundamental
environment-related research and applied
research.
Research, education as well as services belong
to CMK’s mission. These different aspects are
closely linked.
The Centre for Environmental Sciences was founded in
1997. Because of the complexity of the environmental problems, a
collaboration was started between biologists and members of the
Law and Management departments and the chemists of the own
Chemistry-Biology-Geology department. This collaboration led to
the creation of the CMK.
At present, all the Biology research groups have joined up with
the CMK, the group “Applied and Analytical Chemistry”,
researchers of the Law and Management departments and also the
researchers of the Medical Basic Sciences department. The Centre
for Environmental Sciences has nowadays grown into an
interdepartmental and interfaculty knowledge and research
centre.
About five core competence fields were defined in 2003. At
present, the CMK research is concentrated in three core
competence fields, taking the evolutions in the research of the
different groups into account.
